Sonia Solis

Nature Conservation Director

Sonia Solis joined the Luis von Ahn Foundation in early 2022 as Director of Nature Conservation.

She has a degree in Industrial Engineering and a Master’s degree in Environmental Law both from

Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. She also has studies in sustainability standards, high

conservation values, and watershed management among others.


Sonia has over 15 years’ experience working in the field of environment in Latin America. She

has developed deep knowledge in nature conservation, science, equity and social environmental processes, community-based conservation, species protection, philanthropy, policies among many other areas. Most recently Sonia worked for 8 years as Regional Freshwater Officer at WWF Mesoamerica and has been an international consultant for conservation ecosystems and watershed management topics for multiple international organizations.


Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors of Ambenti Foundation in the Dominican

Republic. Sonia and her family (husband and two children) love Guatemala and have a deep commitment to nature conservation and gender equality. They center their family trips around nature to remind them of the importance of protecting natural resources.
